Our History

SMR Legal was the brainchild of Suzanna Sheed, a family law specialist, and Mary Stewart, a Wills & Estates specialist, both based in Shepparton with many loyal clients coming from not only the Goulburn Valley, but also from other parts of Victoria and New South Wales.

Over time Suzanna Sheed and Mary Stewart often referred clients to one another which saw this relationship eventually grow to the point where they decided to merge their respective practices into one law firm.

This merger also included Fiona Merrylees, another highly experienced family lawyer, Kelli Ritchie, a well-respected property lawyer and Stephen Merrylees, a former government lawyer and law lecturer.

Suzanna Sheed has since moved on to a political career (she is the current Member for Shepparton) and Mary Stewart has retired, leaving SMR Legal in the capable hands of its current Directors, Fiona Merrylees, Stephen Merrylees, Alexander Sheed-Finck and Nina O’Brien.

Today SMR Legal has grown in reputation and size. We now service clients from both our Melbourne and Shepparton offices. Our ongoing delivery of quality expert advice that is both cost effective and highly personalised continues to set us apart from our competitors.
